Contact usLead is a heavy metal. While it is denser than other common materials, it is soft with a low melting point. Many years ago, lead was used widely in the construction and industrial markets. Malleable and inexpensive, it was the perfect material for paint bases, wire casings, coatings, flashings, plumbing and more. In the late 19th century, the toxicity of this heavy metal was identified, and as a result, its use has been phased out of most applications. Today, new buildings probably do not contain lead whereas old buildings likely have some degree of lead present.
